We know that choosing a new dental home is a meaningful decision — and we want to make your first visit to Keheewin Family Dental the beginning of a comfortable, lasting relationship. Your first appointment is comprehensive, unhurried, and entirely focused on understanding your oral health and your goals.

What Happens at Your First Appointment

Your first visit is designed to give us a thorough picture of your current oral health and your unique needs. We start by getting to know you — your dental history, any concerns or anxieties you have, and what's most important to you in your dental care.

From there, we move through a comprehensive clinical examination, digital X-rays, and an open conversation about what we find and what we recommend. Nothing is rushed, and nothing is done without your understanding and consent.

  • Welcome and review of health history forms
  • Comprehensive oral health examination — teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissues
  • Digital X-rays to assess bone levels and areas not visible to the eye
  • Oral cancer screening included at no additional charge
  • Full discussion of findings and any recommended treatment

What We Examine and Assess

Our first-visit examination goes well beyond counting cavities. We take a holistic view of your oral health, assessing each structure in your mouth and how everything works together.

  • Individual teeth — looking for decay, cracks, wear, and existing restorations
  • Gum health — measuring pocket depths and checking for signs of gum disease
  • Bite and jaw — evaluating alignment, TMJ function, and signs of grinding
  • Oral tissues — lips, tongue, cheeks, and throat screened for any abnormalities
  • Bone levels — X-rays reveal bone loss and hidden concerns not visible clinically

A thorough first-visit assessment allows us to detect issues early — when they're simplest and least expensive to treat. It's the most important appointment we'll ever do together.

Your Personalized Treatment Plan

After your examination, we sit down together to discuss everything we found. We explain each finding clearly, prioritize any recommended treatment based on urgency, and give you a complete picture of your options — including costs and timelines.

There is never any pressure. Our role is to inform you fully so you can make the decisions that are right for you and your family.

  • Clear explanation of all findings in plain language
  • Treatment recommendations prioritized by urgency and your goals
  • Transparent cost estimates and insurance billing support
  • Space to ask questions and discuss concerns at your own pace

What to Bring to Your First Visit

A little preparation helps your first visit go smoothly and ensures we can provide the most complete care from the start.

  • Completed new patient health history forms (available in advance on our website)
  • Your dental insurance card and member ID
  • A list of any current medications or supplements
  • Any previous dental X-rays you have access to
  • Your list of questions — we always leave time for them

Common

Questions

How long will my first appointment take?

Your first visit typically takes 60–90 minutes. This includes completing your health history, the comprehensive examination, X-rays, and a thorough discussion of our findings and recommendations. We don't rush first visits — they set the foundation for everything that follows.

Do I need to bring my previous dental records?

It's helpful but not required. If you have access to recent X-rays from a previous dentist, bringing them can save time and reduce radiation exposure. If not, we'll take new ones as part of your first appointment.

I have dental anxiety — can you still help?

Absolutely. Many of our patients share this concern, and we take it seriously. Please let us know when you call to book, and we'll take extra steps to make your visit as comfortable as possible. We also offer nitrous oxide sedation for patients who need additional support.

Do you accept new patients?

Yes — we are always welcoming new patients and their families. You do not need a referral to book an appointment. Simply call us or use our online booking form to get started.
