Even before you walk through the door, we work to ensure your appointment goes smoothly. We believe that the more knowledge our patients have, the easier it is to take care of their oral health — and that includes knowing what to expect when you visit.

FAQs

When should I first bring my child to the dentist?

We recommend an initial exam around your child's first tooth or first birthday. Early visits allow us to check for cavities, review pediatric dental development, and give parents important preventive guidance.

How often should my child visit the dentist?

A check-up every six months is generally recommended to prevent cavities, catch problems early, and monitor development. We'll advise you on the ideal frequency based on your child's individual oral health.

Why should we fix baby teeth if they'll just fall out?

Children keep some primary teeth until age 9–13. These teeth are essential for chewing, speaking clearly, and holding space for permanent teeth to erupt correctly. Untreated cavities in baby teeth can cause pain, infection, and affect permanent tooth development.

What are dental sealants?

Sealants are clear or white acrylic coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth — where most cavities in children occur. They act as a barrier against food, plaque, and acid, and have been proven to significantly reduce the risk of pit and fissure cavities.

Do you accept government dental plans for children?

Yes — we accept Alberta Child Health Benefits (ACHB), First Nations Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB), and the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) for eligible patients.

Should I floss my child's teeth?

Yes — begin flossing even when your child only has baby teeth. Once teeth start fitting closely together (usually between ages 2–6), daily flossing is important. Children typically develop independent flossing skills around age 10.
